The Dairy Debate

I recently wrote a speech about The Dairy Debate. To drink or not to drink milk. Before I even begin this article let me begin by saying I hate drinking milk...it's gross. However, I LOVE yogurt and just about any cheese I can get my hands on. I am not a doctor, nor a nutritionist. This article is a matter that is open to debate among many people around the world, and are NOT necessarily all of my opinions. I would like this to be an open forum for people to fight and defend their sides in this case... Please feel free to comment and let's debate!

SIDE ONE... PRO MILK

On a hot day most people want an ice cold glass of milk. Milk is the cookies' best friend, and cereal is down right naked without it. Milk is packed with calcium, which has been proven to help bones and teeth become stronger and less likely to break. In addition to calcium, milk contains Vitamin A, D and B12. As I mentioned before, if you are not a fan of drinking straight milk, these nutrients can be obtained through yogurt, cheese, ice cream, cottage cheese and many other products.

SIDE TWO... AGAINST MILK

We are born into this world naturally nursing from our mothers - until we get older and we begin nursing from cows. NURSING FROM COWS?! Humans are the only species to drink milk after infancy, let alone from another species', do I dare say, teat. Let's take a look at a cow for a moment. They are freaking huge. Milk is designed for a mother to nurse her baby with vitamins, fat and nutrients. Baby calves need a little more fat in their mothers milk to grow into strong, large cows. Yet we feed our little babies this same milk.
When a human mother is nursing her baby she is told to be careful what she eats, and drinks, so as to not pass it to the baby through her milk. Do you think cows that are cramed in dairy farms are relaxed, and watching their diets? Amounts of the stress causing hormone cortisol have been found in cows milk... and humans wonder why they are constantly stressed? And has ever occured to anyone that 75% of adults are lactose intolerant because it is not natural to drink from cows!?!?
Milk has also been known to contain trace amounts of blood and puss due to mis treatment of cows in dairy farms.

As said before... Although I do not like the taste of plain milk, I am also not opposed to consuming cow products. These are two sides of a wide spread debate.

Which side of this dairy fence do you fall on...?
